Meanwhile, McCarthy reiterated halfback Ahman Green will start, making his preseason debut, while
No. 2 halfback Najeh Davenport (hip) should play
after practicing for the second consecutive day. Defensive end Kenny Peterson
(ankle) is “still in question,” for the game, while guard Mookie
Moore is questionable and cornerback Patrick Dendy
(ankle) is doubtful. McCarthy said he expects cornerback Mike Hawkins (knee) to
play but running back Ben Brown (tailbone) will be a game-time decision.
McCarthy said backup quarterback Aaron Rodgers could “potentially” get some
time with the No. 1 offense in the third quarter, depending on how productive
Brett Favre is during his time. For the Packers defense, Monday night will be
the first time all 11 preferred starters will be in the lineup.

Coach Mike McCarthy should have plenty of choices at running
back against the Bengals. Ahman Green will start, McCarthy said Saturday. It will be his first
game action since he tore a quadriceps tendon at Minnesota on Oct. 23. Also expected to be available are Najeh Davenport and Arliss Beach, both of whom have been banged up and limited in practice this
week. Davenport (hip) made it through practice for a second
straight day. Beach (shoulder) practiced all week with a red jersey, meaning he
could not have contact. Samkon Gado
and Noah Herron also are expected to play. Green is expected to play 18 to 20
snaps, but the No. 1 offense will play more than that. McCarthy didn’t say
which running back would follow Green. Herron could get a few snaps at fullback
because starter William Henderson is out with a knee injury. Cornerback Mike
Hawkins, who returned to practice on Monday after missing almost three weeks
with a sore knee, made it through Saturday’s practice and should be available
for the Bengals game. Cornerback Patrick Dendy also
returned Monday after missing three weeks with an ankle sprain, but McCarthy
said his status was less certain than that of Hawkins. Game-time
decisions are expected for defensive lineman Kenny Peterson (ankle), offensive
lineman Mookie Moore (shoulder), fullback Ben Brown
(tailbone) and Dendy.

The Broncos starters will play into the third quarter.
Coach Mike Shanahan has said if the first-teamers are
playing well, they will only play the first series on offense and defense after
halftime, but if they are not playing well, they will go the whole quarter.
Texans coach Gary Kubiak, trying to replicate a
Broncos-like running game, is hunting for a primary back. With Domanick Davis –
he has two 1,000-yard seasons – slow to recover from offseason knee injury,
rookie Wali Lundy and Vernand
Morency lead the Texans in rushing in the preseason,
with 99 and 95 yards, respectively.

standing behind the offense, to general manager Rick Smith watching on the
