Tipping Off in the NBA

The NBA offers up a dozen games on Wednesday night, including several big clashes between the league’s top teams. Leading off the slate of marquee matchups are Denver at Orlando and Phoenix at Cleveland, both at 7:00pm ET. After that it’s Atlanta at Detroit and Boston at New Orleans, followed by the Lakers at Utah in a Western clash; the Jazz were upset by Golden State Sunday.

Elsewhere, the Spurs will be gunning for a road win in Toronto, with Washington at Charlotte, and Memphis at Philadelphia. The Pacers will take their terrible road record into a game in Milwaukee, while Sacramento travels to Houston, and Portland hosts Oklahoma City. Finally, the Knicks will continue their Western swing in Los Angeles against the Clippers, who have lost three of their past five.

The March to Madness

Rounding Out the Slate

The World Baseball Classic gets underway in less than a month, and the oddsmakers generally have the United States and the Dominican Republic pegged as the favorites to win the tournament right now. Other top contenders are Japan, Cuba, and Venezuela, although the Venezuelans’ chances took a hit this week when it was reported that ace Johan Santana wouldn’t be participating.

Tennis Betting

Tennis
betting
has become increasingly popular in the last few years and many
punters are taking tennis picks into consideration when trying to find the best
sports picks. Tennis matches are played almost every day and it is easier to
follow a lot of players at the same time. One advantage of betting on tennis
matches is that there are only two outcomes, which increases your chances of
winning.

Players’ form is very important as the matches are played
every day, once the tournament starts and this can often decide the winner.
Considering that the tournaments have very busy schedule, the bookies don’t
have enough time to take everything into consideration when deciding on the
odds, and they usually base these just on statistics. Thus, you can back the
player at really good odds if you can just take some time to study the matches.

The most important thing when choosing the best tennis pick sis to take
the playing surface into the consideration. We all know that almost all Spanish
players are great on clay, but really poor on faster surfaces, while you cannot
expect a serve and volley player to do well on the slower surface. You should
make sure that the player you are backing is good and only uses authentic tennis gear like wilson blade racquets and stuff.

As we have already said, the players are involved in a lot
of matches during the season and they tend to get tired and often pick up
injuries. Making sure to have all the information on a player is essential as
that can help you a great deal. For example, if a player has just finished a
difficult tournament, where he played a lot of long matches, he cannot be
expected to bring his best game as he will be very tired. You could use this to
bet against him and take possibly very high odds.

Previous meetings between players are also worth
considering as if one player has always beaten the other one,
the odds are that he will do it again, even though he is an underdog in the
match.

If you follow all these guidelines, tennis betting is
certainly worth considering and it is certainly an option when there are not
many football or basketball events to bet on.

Rounding Out the Slate

The Cubs always have their early-season supporters, and this year’s no different with them pegged as the 3/1 Vegas favorites to win the 2009 National League pennant. The defending-champion Phillies are just behind Chicago at 4/1 odds to get back to the World Series, while the Mets and Dodgers are pegged at 5/1 odds. The Diamondbacks round out the first five on the chart, as they sit at 13/2.

The Cardinals have 8/1 odds on that Vegas list right now, while the Brewers are at 15/1, and the Rockies and Braves are both pegged at 18/1. The Marlins and Astros hold down 20/1 odds to get to the World Series, with the Giants at 25/1, the Reds at 40/1, and the Padres at 60/1. The Nationals, as usual, are big ‘dogs at 60/1 odds, but that still puts them ahead of one other team – the 75/1 Pirates.
