It’s Fat Tuesday, which for sports bettors is the way to describe their wallets as the sharp player is in their best era ever.

Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The Lakers highlight the NBA schedule as the league returns to action, and the Bruins look to snap out of their current funk.

Tipping off on the hardwood  . . .

The NBA returns to action on Tuesday night with 10 games on its post-break slate. The top matchup of the night will take place out on the west coast, with the Hawks traveling to Los Angeles to take on the Lakers. Atlanta enters the second half of the season at 31-21 straight-up and 28-24 against-the-spread, while Lakers sit at 42-10 SU and 26-25-1 ATS atop the Western Conference standings.

The Magic will play host to the Bobcats on Tuesday night, with Minnesota at Washington, Philadelphia at Indiana, San Antonio at New York, Milwaukee at Detroit, New Orleans at Oklahoma City, New Jersey at Houston, and Memphis at Utah. As well, the Clippers will be in Phoenix to play the Suns; fired Phoenix head coach Terry Porter will be replaced by assistant Alvin Gentry for that game.

The march toward Madness . . .

There are four ranked teams in action on the college hoops schedule on Tuesday night, and two of them will take the floor at Mackey Arena when Purdue hosts Michigan State. The Boilermakers are at 19-6 SU and 11-11 ATS on the season after knocking off Iowa 49-45 in their last contest.

The Spartans are a lofty 20-4 SU and 12-9 ATS this year; they beat Michigan 54-42 in their meeting last week. BetUs Sportsbook has Purdue laying 2.5.

The other games of note on Tuesday has Clemson hosting Maryland with Sports Betting Sportsbook posting Clemson as a 10.5 point chalk and Marquette getting a visit from Seton Hall. The Golden Eagles had no trouble beating St. John’s Saturday, getting 20 points from Jerel McNeal in a 73-59 win.

Kentucky will be at Vanderbilt laying 2.5 at most sportsbooks.

Taking a trip around the rink . . .

The struggling Bruins will look to get back on track in Carolina on Tuesday night in one of seven National Hockey League games on the schedule. Boston has now lost four straight games, most recently falling 3-2 to the Predators in a shootout on Saturday night. The Hurricanes blanked the Sabres 3-0 in their last outing, with Cam Ward stopping all 36 shots and Eric Staal scoring his 24th goal.

Buffalo will get back on the ice on Tuesday as well, as they’ll be playing across the border in Toronto. Rounding out the night’s schedule: Chicago at Tampa Bay, New Jersey at Florida, Vancouver at Calgary, Ottawa at Colorado, and Edmonton at San Jose; the Sharks fell 6-5 to the Devils last time out on Sunday.

The Sprint Cup Series’ top drivers will look to get back on track this week when the circuit heads to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana for the Auto Club 500.
