Louisville-Arizona Official Sweet 16 Betting Preview

Here is the official betting preview of the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 matchup between Arizona and Louisville.

The Wildcats come into this game at 21-13 straight up and 19-14 to the number. They have covered 14 of their last 20 contests. Louisville is 30-5 outright and 21-14 to the Vegas odds. Louisville though is 0-2 against the spread in the Big Dance, though they enter with a 12-game straight up winning streak.

Arizona is especially efficient on offense shooting an outstanding 47.7 percent versus teams normally allowing 43.1. This includes 39.4 percent from beyond the arc, which is 4.6 percent more than their opponents normally allow.

Both ratios are better than Louisville. However points are tough to come by to the No. 1 seeded Cards. They allow just 61.7 points per game to teams normally getting 61.7 on 39.4 percent shooting to 44.5

BetUs Sportsbook, rated No. 1 of all approved sportsbooks based on client satisfaction has the Cardinals a nine point favorite with a total of 139.

Some spread betting trends, all against the spread: The Wildcats are 9-2 opponent winning percentage of .600 or greater. The Cards are 16-7 overall their last 23.

2009 World Series Winner: Yankees Say Sportsbooks, Ryan Howard to Be Home Run King

Despite missing the playoffs last year, the New York Yankees are the odds-on favorites to win the 2009 World Series according to BetUs Sportsbook. At +450, the Bronx Bombers are followed by their hated rivals the Boston Red Sox to win the Fall Classic. The BoSox check in at +500.

BetUs was recently named the world’s No. 1 online sportsbook by OffshoreInsiders.com based on customer satisfaction.

The oddsmakers believe a Subway Series is quite possible as the NY Mets are the team deemed most likely to win the final game in October from the National League. Actually they are co-NL favorites with the Cubs to end the Curse of the Billy goat at +800.

Further demonstrating the past results are not indicative of future performance, the defending World Champion Philadelphia Phillies are relative long shots at +1400. That ties them with last year’s breakout team, the American League Champion Tampa Bay Devil-less Rays, also at +1400.

Who will lead MLB in home runs? The Phillies Ryan Howard is +300 and the heavy (so to speak) favorite to have more four ply swats than anyone else.

Alex Rodriquez is +800 to put aside distractions and injuries to win the title. He is followed by Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrera at +1000.

Also included are more than 100 proposition bets from the number of David Wright home runs to Cole Hamels wins.

Thursday March Madness and NBA Rundown

Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The Sweet 16 gets underway in Boston and Glendale, while the Lakers meet the Pistons and the Habs play host to the Bolts.

On the road to the Final Four . . .

The NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 tips off on Thursday night with action in both the West and East regions. The West matchups will be played at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, with No. 5 Purdue vs. No. 1 Connecticut, and No. 3 Missouri vs. No. 2 Memphis. Oddsmakers like the top-seeded Huskies in their game, as they’ve been pegged as a 6.5-point favorite (with the total at 135). Memphis is listed as a 4.5-point favorite in their matchup, with the total at 141.5.

The East region contests will be played at TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, with No. 4 Xavier vs. No. 1 Pittsburgh, and No. 3 Villanova vs. No. 2 Duke. The Panthers had to battle through the first two rounds of the tournament, but they’re still pegged as 7-point favorites at SportsBook  to take care of Xavier on Thursday night (with the game’s total at 139 points). The Blue Devils are slim 2-point favorites in their matchup with Villanova later in the evening, with the total set high at 148 points at BetUs Sportsbook.

Tipping off on the hardwood  . . .

Kobe Bryant and the Lakers will be looking for a win in Detroit against the Pistons in one of three games on the NBA’s schedule for Thursday night. Los Angeles didn’t have much trouble getting past Oklahoma City on Tuesday, with Bryant tossing in 19 points and adding five assists in a 107-89 victory. The Pistons are coming off a 99-91 loss in Chicago, with Will Bynum scoring 20 points for Detroit.

The other two NBA matchups are part of the weekly TNT doubleheader, with Miami at Chicago and Phoenix at Portland. The Suns and Trail Blazers have already met three times this season, most recently on December 18 when Portland grabbed a 124-119 home win as a 4-point favorite. The Suns won the first two games of the season set at home, covering the spread in both outings.

Perfection on the line…

Taking a trip around the rink . . .

The Canadiens will be looking to grab a second straight win against an Eastern also-ran on Thursday night when they play host to Tampa Bay. The Habs breathed a little life into their playoff chances on Tuesday by doubling up on the Thrashers in a 6-3 home victory; Alex Tanguay and Alexei Kovalev each scored twice in that game. Tampa Bay is coming off a 2-1 Tuesday win over Columbus.

There are seven other games on the National Hockey League’s schedule for Thursday, including Florida at Philadelphia. The Panthers are trying to break into the top eight of the East, while the Flyers are hoping to lock down fourth place in the conference. Rounding out the slate: the Rangers at Atlanta, Calgary at Columbus, San Jose at Nashville, Los Angeles at Dallas, Vancouver at St. Louis, and Edmonton at Phoenix; the Oilers are coming off a tough 3-2 loss to Detroit.

Rounding out the Roundup . . .

If you think Tiger Woods will get back on track this weekend you can take him as the 2/1 Vegas favorite to pick up the victory in the PGA Tour’s latest stop, the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando. Woods won this event last season, and he’s well ahead of the next golfers on the Vegas odds list: Padraig Harrington (15/1), Retief Goosen (15/1), Jim Furyk (15/1), and Anthony Kim (15/1). As well, Vijay Singh is pegged at 20/1 odds, and Mike Weir is at 25/1.

Gonzaga-North Carolina Betting Preview For March Madness Odds

The No.4 Bulldogs had a tough time covering their March Madness betting odds during the first weekend of the Tournament, failing to do so in wins over Akron and Western Kentucky.Gonzaga struggled in the first half before pulling away for a 13-point win over Akron, and then they needed a last-second shot from DemetriGoodison to beat Western Kentucky by two. The Hilltoppers game shouldn’t have been that close given that they shot 35.7% from the foul line, but Gonzaga allowed them to shoot 51.6% from the floor, which is well over the Bulldogs’ season average of 37.4%. However, Gonzaga averaged 51.1% from the field, and this type of offensive efficiency will always give them a chance.

The No.1 Tar Heels covered both of their online betting spreads, as they romped to a 43-point win over Radford, while dropping LSU by 14 in the second round. The story of UNC’s opening weekend was the return of ACC Player of the Year Ty Lawson, who scored 21 of his 23 points after halftime in the LSU game. Lawson looked a bit tentative in the first half as he tested his jammed toe, but the point guard exploded in the second half, and he showed how dangerous the Tar Heels are when he’s leading the attack. This overshadowed a quiet game from TylerHansbrough, who hasn’t been as dominant as most thought he would be.

March Madness odds have given the Tar Heels an 8.5-point spread, which is a little surprising given that Gonzaga has won 11 straight games, and has a head-to-head edge over UNC, beating the Tar Heels at Madison Square Garden in 2006. Lawson should be fine and ready to go, but Hansbrough has to play better than he did last weekend. Wayne Ellington is also hitting on all cylinders, putting up 24.0 points in UNC’s two wins, and the Tar Heels are tough to stop when he’s on. But the Bulldogs are a balanced team who get scoring from a lot of different people, and their defense is tougher than anythingUNC has seen so far in the Tournament. Bet on North Carolina for a third consecutive trip to the Elite Eight, but they’ll fail to cover their March Madness betting spread.
