The NFL betting season is back, which means fantasy football and your local NFL survivor contest is getting started. With that in mind, you need to make some picks for Week 1 and you better make sure that your NFL picks dont‘ screw you in Week 1 of the survivor contest. After all, the idea is to – in fact – survive.
Here’s a look at some of feasible sports picks for your NFL survivor contest in Week 1:
Line: Patriots -10.5
The Patrioots are the biggest favorite on the board, which means they’ll be a popular pick for your survivor contest. At home, on opening night, with the return of Tom Brady, it’s hard to see the Patriots losing that contest.
The Buffalo Bills have a weak defense and their offense is a work in progress. Their offensive line is shoddy, which means matching points with the Patriots might be difficult. Also, the Bills will be without running back Marshawn Lynch, who has been suspended for the first three games of the season.
The Patriots are a safe pick.
Line: Saints -13
The Detroit Lions are getting better but right now, they are still in the development stage. That’s a big issue for them considering they are facing one of the best offenses in the NFL in week one. The Saints defense has improved as well so this is going to be a complete whitewash. Look for the Saints to run up the score and win comfortably in this game.
Line: Chargers -9
The San Diego Chargers will be another popular pick this week because betting against the Oakland Raiders is usually a good idea. The Raiders are completely dysfunctional and their defense has been pathetic in the preseason. In the four exhibition games, the Raiders gave up nearly 800 yards rushing, which is a bad sign considering LaDainian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles are coming to town.
The only caveat is that the Raiders are at home but that may not matter here.
Line: Seahawks -7
If you’re looking for a sleeper survivor pick, take a shot with the Seattle Seahawks. They are an underrated team right now and they are facing the feeble St. Louis Rams. The Seahawks protect their home field advantage very well and they shouldn’t have too many problems shutting down the Rams in week one.
