MLB Odds – Tigers, Twins In Playoff With Postseason Berth On The Line

Before we get into MLB playoff betting, there’s still one spot left in the American League which will be filled by either Detroit or Minnesota. The one-game playoff will take place on Tuesday in Minnesota between thesse AL Central rivals.

Tigers vs Twins odds – Tuesday, October 6, 5:07 PM ET

Rookie Rick Porcello (14-9, 4.09) is 1-2 in four starts against the Twins this year, posting a 3.09 ERA, and his last outing came against Minnesota, as he took a no-decision in a 3-2 loss at home by allowing a run on seven hits over 6.1 innings. Putting a first-year hurler on the mound in such a big situation is the reason that the Tigers are underdogs in your offshore sportsbook, especially as Porcello has lost both of his starts at the Metrodome this year.

Scott Baker’s (15-9, 4.36) last start also came against the Tigers, as he gave up an unearned run on five hits over five innings of an 8-3 victory over Detroit on the road. That was his first win in four starts against the Tigers in 2009, and he’s posted a 6.75 ERA. At home, Baker hasn’t been all that great, going 6-5 in 16 starts with a 4.55 ERA.

Betting services are listing the Twins as -168 favorites at home, given their 48-33 record at the Metrodome, and Detroit‘s 3-7 record in their last 10 trips to Minnesota. The Tigers used ace Justin Verlander on Sunday just to get to this game, and now their season rests on the shoulders of a rookie, albeit a rookie who is pitched well since the All-Star break. Porcello is 6-3 in 14 starts with a 3.92 ERA in the second half of the year, but Baker has been even better, going 8-2 in 15 starts with a 3.21 ERA. Detroit really should have had this division wrapped up at least two weeks ago, and they may have used all their bullets just to get here. Go with the home team and put the Minnesota Twins in your MLB picks.

Packers Versus Favre: Minnesota-Green Bay Betting Odds

Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The Packers head to Minnesota to take on the Vikings and their old quarterback, and the Rangers get set to battle the Devils.

Colliding on the gridiron . . .

It’ll be Brett Favre vs. the Packers on Monday Night Football as the Vikings play host to their division rivals in the primetime matchup. Undefeated Minnesota (3-0 straight-up, 2-1 against-the-spread) is coming off a 27-24 win over the Niners last weekend. Favre went 24-of-46 for 301 yards passing in that contest with two touchdowns, including a game-winning strike to Greg Lewis with two seconds left on the clock. Adrian Peterson ran for 85 yards on 19 carries in the Week 3 victory.

Green Bay, meanwhile, improved to 2-1 SU (2-1 ATS) on the season with a 36-17 win in St. Louis in Week 3. Aaron Rodgers was good on 13-of-23 pass attempts for 269 yards in that victory, with two touchdowns. Ryan Grant rushed for 99 yards on 26 carries in that game. The oddsmakers, though, have the Packers pegged as 4-point road underdogs for Monday night, with the total for the game at 45.5. Green Bay and Minnesota are both 2-1 on the OVER/UNDER.

Taking a trip around the rink . . .

As well, there are a couple of games on the National Hockey League’s schedule for Monday night, with Columbus at Vancouver, and the Rangers at New Jersey. The Devils will be looking to bounce back from a 5-2 home loss to the Flyers on Saturday night. Martin Brodeur stopped just 22 of 27 Philly shots in that contest, while Brian Rolston and Jamie Langenbrunner had the Devils’ goals. New York beat Ottawa 5-2 on Saturday, with Brandon Dubinsky scoring twice in that victory.

NFL Injuries and Weather For Week 4 Spread Picks and Fantasy Football

Here are key NFL injuries and NFL weather conditions for both the fantasy football player and for week 4 NFL betting picks

Chargers vs. Steelers

It’s the Sunday night football game on NBC. One team is likely to have their star RB, the other not. San Diego’s LaDainian Tomlinson is probable after missing the last two games with an ankle injury. LB Shawne Merriman is questionable-to-probable. Pittsburgh’s Willie Parker is doubtful. Rashard Mendenhall will start for the Super Bowl Champions, but be aware that he has struggled learning the playbook.

Cowboys vs. Broncos

This game is one of three Wise Guys from Grandmaster sports handicapper Joe Duffy. Dallas will have RB Marion Barber but will not have fellow RB Felix Jones. OT Flozell Adams and LB DeMarcus Ware will play for the Pokes.

Bills vs. Dolphins

Buffalo is minus four starters on defense including Leodis McKelvin, a loss that hurts them on special teams as well points out handicapper Matt Rivers. They are without both starting safeties Bryan Scott and Donte Whitner. Two reserves on defense are also out so the Bills are very thin on the defensive end.

On offense, they are without starting T Demetrius Bell. The Bills also are very thin depth wise among the big uglies.

Buccaneers vs. Redskins

Aging Washington RB Clinton Portis is a game time decision.

Lions vs. Bears

But no tigers, oh my. Detroit RB Kevin Smith, who got 101 yards rushing last week on only 16 carries, is a game time decision.

Ravens vs. Patriots

Again New England WR Wes Welker won’t have his status determined until close to game time.

Raiders vs. Texans

There is a 74 percent chance of rain at kickoff but winds only 7 mph.

Bengals vs. Browns

There is a 42 percent chance of rain at kickoff and winds 14 mph to west to southwest.
