The Twins, who pulled into a tie for top spot in the division on Saturday, will send Carl Pavano (13-12, 5.07 ERA) to the mound to take on the Royals’ Luke Hochevar (7-12, 6.24 ERA). In Detroit the pitching matchup will be Justin Verlander (18-9, 3.45 ERA) vs. John Danks (13-10, 3.69 ERA). Should the teams end up even in the standings the tiebreaker would be played on Tuesday in Minnesota.

Elsewhere on the last day of the MLB regular season it’ll be Toronto at Baltimore, Cleveland at Boston, the Yankees at Tampa Bay, the Angels at Oakland, Houston at the Mets, Pittsburgh at Cincinnati, Florida at Philadelphia, Washington at Atlanta, Milwaukee at St. Louis, Arizona at the Cubs, San Francisco at San Diego, Colorado at the Dodgers, and Texas at Seattle. It’s Scott Feldman (17-7, 4.02 ERA) vs. Felix Hernandez (18-5, 2.48 ERA) in that last matchup.

It’s Game 3 of the WNBA Finals on Sunday afternoon, with Phoenix at Indiana. The Fever tied the best-of-five series at 1-1 with a 93-84 road win on Thursday night. Tamika Catchings picked up 19 points and 11 assists in that victory for Indiana. Diana Taurasi poured in a game-high 20 points in the loss for Phoenix.

The Chase for the Sprint Cup continues on Sunday afternoon with the Price Chopper 400 at Kansas Speedway. Jimmie Johnson won last week’s Sprint Cup event at Dover International Speedway, and he’s been pegged as the 4/1 Vegas favorite to get back-to-back titles on Sunday. Finally, the drivers of Formula 1 will continue their Asian swing on Sunday in the Japanese Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton won in Singapore last time out, and Fernando Alonso grabbed the win in Japan last year.

Drew Brees and the New Orleans offense is flat out awesome and I mean awesome. These guys have the potential to break records this season and in the controlled environment of the Superdome will be chucking the pigskin around for sure and gaining a bunch of yards as they always seem to do. Plus Sean Payton’s defense has actually stepped up in a big-time way and is looking like a unit that is actually pretty good these days and far from the achilles heel in prior seasons. All in all the Saints could be a major player in the postseason this year and other teams better take some notice if they haven’t already.
 
But with all of the above said how can you still not take a touchdown back with these Jets!??!!? Rex Ryan has come in and been unreal coaching up the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets. Also stealing away studs like Bart Scott and Jim Leonhard to go along with Dorell Revis and others have solidified the Jets defense into one of the league’s best. These guys just fly around the ball and have been dominating opposing quality offenses like the Patriots, Titans and Texans. None of those three are close to the high flying Saints but none of the three are bad either.
 
We are without a doubt at a disadvantage at the quarterback position with rookie Marc Sanchez vs. Breees but give the former USC signal caller some credit as he is appearing to be a total winner who knows how to do what it takes in order to prevail after 60 minutes. If the Jets need a gritty eight yard run the kid can do that. If they need him to throw a ball neatly into tight quarters on a key third down he has proven that he can do that as well. Until Sanchez shows he’s a rookie he really isn’t one and I’m therefore fine with him.
 
I do expect New Orleans to win this game but with the confidence that Ryan’s club has been exuding there is no reason to believe this will not be a tight and hard fought game until the final whistle. To get a full touchdown with a team that has already proven themselves to be one of the better teams in the league is too good to pass up no matter how insane the Saints can be when they have the ball.
