NFL Betting – Week 11 Picks

Atlanta Falcons @ New York Giants
Sports Betting Odds: Giants -6.5

The Atlanta Falcons are just 2-3 in their last five games and the theme has been consistent in those contests: they just aren’t good enough to beat the elite teams in the NFL. While the Falcons have no problem gathering wins against the bottom feeders in this league, their losses have come to the New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys – all on the road. The Falcons are faced with another tough road contest as they head to East Rutherford to face the New York Giants. Especially since the Falcons may be without their leading rusher, Michael Turner.

The New York Giants have been sliding fairly badly themselves, losing four straight games, but they are still a smart veteran team that is coming off a bye week. They will be far fresher than the Falcons and that could be one of the key factors. On top of that, the Giants should be able to get their running game going with both Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw. When those two players are leading the way and the pressure is off of quarterback Eli Manning, the Giants don’t have many problems scoring points in bunches and getting wins. Sunday should be another one of those cases as the Giants roll to a big win.

NFL Picks: Giants -6.5

New York Jets @ New England Patriots
Jets Patriots Odds Odds: Patriots -10

The other New York team – the Jets – has also been slipping recently. They have lost four of their last five games and their bye week didn’t help them too much as the Jacksonville Jaguars came in to town and left with a win. The Jets are struggling on offense right now because rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez just isn’t providing the spark he once used to. On top of that, he is making a lot of mistakes – including two interceptions last week.

The Jets defense is also fading as they sorely miss defensive tackle Kris Jenkins. They have had trouble stopping the run since he was injured and that could be a lingering concern the rest of the year. For this week, look for the Patriots to score rather easily as their offense is rolling. They’ll be looking to atone for their effort last week.

US Sportsbook Reviews Picks: Patriots -10

Free Pick: Ball State-Central Michigan

Super handicapper Matt Rivers continues to dominate since being promoted to the Show at OffshoreInsiders.com after years of being far and away the winningest handicapper at a large network of websites.

Wednesday he says to go with Ball State plus the points hosting Central Michigan. They are getting 14.5 at Bodog.

Dan Lefevour and the Chippewas are clearly the far superior team, even on the road, when compared to Ball State. The Cardinals are not close to the dominant juggernaut from a season ago as Nate Davis who led one of the most potent offenses in the country is long gone. Now at 1-9 BSU is one of the weaker teams in all of the MAC and will lose today but to get a few touchdowns at home is enough for me to back this dog in a small play.

CMU has blown out all comers at home but when traveling this team has been a lot more vulnerable. Meanwhile today’s home boys have improved greatly of late and have been ultra competitive in tighter than expected losses against solid foes in Northern Illinois, Temple and Ohio. But today’s test is a bit too large once again as 1-10 is much more than likely in the Cardinals future.

Central is 6-0 in the MAC and 8-2 overall including a phenomenal win at Michigan State and a cover at Arizona earlier in the season. I’m not saying this team can’t travel because they are not Jekyl and Hyde like some but the highway has proven to be a lot more formidable for the Chips and in the end I think it leads to a win but non-cover by 31-21.

Tuesday Sports Pick

The college basketball odds are in full swing and the top sports handicappers are rolling on the dimes. Superstar Matt Rivers says Fairfield plus the points at Maryland. Bodog has them getting 19.5.

We see it every single season over and over and over again. Gary Williams’ Maryland Terrapins seem to struggle out of the gate and in head scratching fashion look horrendous against far inferior competition. I’m not sure if it’s a lack of focus against the cupcakes or a coaching flaw or what but the Turtle is just not very good to begin seasons.

Fairfield is certainly a creampuff and a team that deserves to be a huge dog tonight against Greivis Vazquez and the big bad Terps but I am banking on history repeating itself. Yes Maryland did just beat up Charleston Southern but I don’t see another 38 point burial happening here.

There certainly is talent on Williams’ squad with Vazquez and Landon Milbourne, Eric Hayes and Adrian Bowie but there is always talent in this program and yet we do not always see it at this time of the year.

Ed Cooley’s Stags are 2-0 and just beat Fordham. No the Rams are not exactly a quality squad at all but they are still a semi big program and win there means something. Anthony Johnson will fill it up and bang down low and Derek Needham is pretty good as well.

I’m not calling for a shocking outright but I also see a more competitive game than that oddsmaker seems to believe.

UFC 106 Betting – Koscheck vs Johnson Preview & Pick

UFC 106 doesn’t give sports betting fans a title fight to wager on but it does offer some very even matchups that make for fun yet difficult choices. For the welterweight clash between Josh Koscheck and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson in particular, bettors are almost split down the middle. Here’s a preview and pick to help you with your decision.

Josh Koscheck (13-4) vs Anthony Johnson (8-2)
Sportsbook odds: Koscheck -105, Johnson -125

Josh Koscheck and Anthony Johnson probably have a few guys in their way before they can top the welterweight contender ladder—Dan Hardy, Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves—but they’re fearsome up-and-comers in the division. Both guys can be classified as next-generation mixed martial artists in that they’re athletes who absorb new skills like sponges.

Koscheck in particular has improved dramatically over the last few years. He was always a phenomenal wrestler and remains arguably a top-five wrestler in the entire UFC for any weight class. He’s become more dangerous over the years, however, by improving his kickboxing and developing some serious punching power. A well-rounded Koscheck has a better chance to contend for a title than he did a few years ago but his new skills sometimes hurt him too. He too frequently abandons his real strength—his wrestling—in favor of “showing” off his newfound striking ability. That cost him his fights with Thiago Alves and Paulo Thiago. It’s the equivalent to a good rushing team in NFL betting getting caught up in a passing shootout.

Anthony Johnson is likely crossing his fingers hoping that Koscheck wants to stand and trade with him. The reason: Johnson is an absolute killer. He’s 6’2″ and reportedly walks around as heavy as 220 pounds when he’s not training, so the fact that he’s fighting at 170 pounds is almost unfair. He’s an imposing physical presence with devastating knockout power. He doesn’t pound out TKOs with flurries—he can floor an opponent with a single punch or head kick. On the feet, Johnson has an advantage. On the ground, he does have a wrestling background but he’s largely untested in the UFC. Online betting fans have to think Koscheck has the advantage on the canvas, though Johnson at the very least will be hard to hold down.

Sports picks choice: Johnson -125. Koscheck can absolutely win this fight if he plays it smart and goes for the takedown, but he’s fallen in love with the striking game too much. The longer he stays standing with Johnson, the more likely he is to have his head taken off. Pick Johnson but understand that this fight could really go either way.
