Memphis dropped their first three games of the season, but have since bounced back with consecutive wins over Nicholls State, Arkansas State, and UAB. The Red Sox/Rays ALCS gets started on Friday night, with Game 1 in Tampa Bay. James Shields will start for the Rays; he beat the White Sox in his ALDS appearance, surrendering three earned runs on six hits over 6 1-3 innings of work. Daisuke Matsuzaka will take the mound for the Red Sox in the opener. Dice-K took a no-decision in his ALDS start against the Angels, allowing three earned runs over his five innings.

As well, it’s Game 2 of the Dodgers/Phillies series on Friday, with first pitch set for just after 4:30pm ET. Philadelphia will go with Brett Myers in this contest, and he’s coming off an NLDS win over the Brewers in which he gave up just two earned runs on two hits over seven innings of work. Chad Billingsley will get the start for the Dodgers, and he beat the Cubs in the NLDS by giving up just one earned run over 6 2-3 innings pitched.

NFL Injuries

Among QBs, The Bengals Carson Palmer, Buccaneers Brian Griese, Eagles Donovan McNabb, Packers Aaron Rogers, Seahawks Matt Hasselbeck, and Texans Matt Schaub are all likely to start despite being slowed by injury. Cy McCormick of MasterLockLine.com says the one guy who could be downgraded is Hasselbeck. Detroit‘s Jon Kitna is very questionable.   

Brian Gould of ScoresOddsPicks.com says that the Eagles star running back Brian Westbrook is doubtful, while Philly WRs Reggie Brown is questionable and Kevin Curtis, last years leading receiver, is now probable. Patriots RB Lamont Jordan is questionable. The Bucs will likely be without WR Joey Galloway.

NFL bettors will keep an eye on Detroit WR Calvin Johnson who was added to the injury report. Other key injuries: Eagles RG Shawn Andres doubtful, Colts DE Dwight Freeney questionable, Redskins DT Jason Taylor questionable, Cowboys DB Terence Newman out, Colts Bob Sanders is out.

The Rest of the Schedule

The Chicago Blackhawks are still in a rebuild phase, but they’re hoping their young core led by forwards Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews is good enough to get them back into playoff contention this season. The Hawks will begin their 2008/09 campaign on Friday night, when they play on the road against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

There are six other games on the NHL’s schedule for Friday, including the Islanders at New Jersey, Florida at Carolina, Washington at Atlanta, Nashville at St. Louis, and Columbus at Dallas. As well, the Montreal Canadiens will start the defense of their Northeast Division title on the road on Friday night when they play the Buffalo Sabres.

Also, there are two Canadian Football League games on Friday – Winnipeg is a 6-point home favorite against Toronto, and B.C. is favored by 5 at home against Edmonton.

Saturday’s schedule is highlighted by the college football clash between No. 5 Texas and No. 1 Oklahoma.
