Official Gambling Preview of NY Jets-New England Patriots

It has yet again been a banner season in football betting and Thursday night looks like one of the best in years for pointspread players.

Here is the official betting preview of the New England Patriots and New York Jets. The sportsbooks have the Patriots posted as a 3.5 point favorite with a total of 41. Football bettors also can get New England at -3 -120.

Since last year, the Patriots are 15-1 their last 16 outright at home. This includes three straight wins by an average of 28-11. The Jets lead the NFL in average starting position.

The Jets are 6-3 straight up and 5-4 to the Vegas odds. They have won five of their last six game straight up. New England has identical straight up and pointspread marks. Despite getting just 5.6 yards per play against teams normally allowing 5.7, the Jets average 28.3 points per game against teams normally allowing 23.9.

Defensively, they have been tough against the run allowing 3.2 yards per carry to teams normally getting 3.9.

However those numbers are better than New England which gets .6 yards per rush less than their opponents normally allow, while giving up .2 yards per play more. The Pats are particularly vulnerable to the pass allowing 7.3 yards per play to teams normally getting 6.8.

Some spread numbers from Brian Gould of ScoresOddsPicks.com say that New England is 49-28 to opponents getting a completion percentage of 61 % or better. They are also 11-3 off consecutive spread wins. On the other hand, the Pats are 1-8 after a game in which they gave up 15 or fewer points.

New England has gone over 7-0 to teams that get 4.5 or more yards per carry. The Jets have done over 9-1 off a spread win.

The Jets are 21-8 after allowing less than 150 yards passing last game, but 1-7 if they scored 30 or more in their previous contest.
