The oddsmakers have Iowa pegged as a 1.5-point road favorite for this contest.

Top-ranked Alabama (-24) will be on the road against Duke on Saturday afternoon, while No. 2 Ohio State (-30.5) plays host to visiting Ohio. The American League schedule for Saturday has Detroit at the White Sox, the Yankees at Baltimore, Cleveland at Kansas City, Toronto at Boston, the Angels at Tampa Bay, Texas at Seattle, and Oakland at Minnesota. Dallas Braden (9-12, 3.56 ERA) is slated to take on Kevin Slowey (12-6, 4.24 ERA) in that Athletics/Twins matchup. Lefthander Braden has picked up the loss in each of his past three starts, giving up four runs on six hits over 5 2-3 innings of work last time out against the Red Sox. Righthander Slowey grabbed a win against the Indians in his most recent trip to the mound, surrendering just two unearned runs on six hits over five innings of work. Slowey fanned five in that game.

The National League on Saturday then offers up Colorado at the Dodgers, San Diego at St. Louis, Atlanta at the Mets, Arizona at Pittsburgh, Washington at Philadelphia, Cincinnati at Houston, the Cubs at Florida, and Milwaukee at San Francisco. Yovani Gallardo (12-7, 3.64 ERA) is expected to get the ball for the Brewers on Saturday, while the Giants counter with Tim Lincecum (14-9, 3.60 ERA). Righthander Gallardo blanked the Cubs on four hits over seven innings in his most recent start, striking out six batters in the win. Righthander Lincecum picked up his third straight victory last time out, holding the Padres to one run on seven hits in seven innings of work, and fanning nine.

Laying chalk on the road is not the overall key to success and losing Ndamukong Suh definitely hurts but Bo Pelini has done a great job with this Cornhusker program and his boys should be too physical today in the end.

I love Jake Locker as the quarterback may be the best player in the entire country and has the potential to be the first draft pick next season but with that said the finesse Huskies, even at home, really should not be able to physically compete well enough today to win this game. I really do like what Steve Sarkisian has done with this program in a short amount of time. We saw UDub upset USC a season ago and these guys do have talent. But it’s just asking too much for them to man up with the likes of Eric Martin and Baker Steinkuhler and the physicality of the boys from the Big 12. Some say this Black Shirt defense may be even better than last season with Suh. I’m not fully buying that as losing a superstar defender like that is too much to overcome and actually be better but this unit is very good and creates a tough matchup for the Huskies.

Taylor Martinez is a red shirt freshman who will be tested playing in his first road game but the kid is certainly talented enough to play over Zach Lee and even if not close to the level of Locker should be just fine. Martinez leads an offense that has been moving the ball and putting up points. I’ve even read the words electric and Oregon Ducks-like being used for this offense which is not bad at all as UN has been fairly slow and plodding over the past 10 or so years.

This game should be competitive but after 60 minutes I do think Pelini’s crew will wear down their Pac-10 opponent and win and cover this thing.

Despite a win over Navy and the blowout against Morgan State, the Terrapins’ offense hasn’t been in top form. Hitting the road against West Virginia is a bad mismatch, as the Mountaineers are waiting to explode. They’ll rack up a pile of points and cover the spread.

No. 8 Nebraska (-4) at Washington – 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC

The Huskers have opened with two straight wins, though they’ve failed to cover against the spread so far (in fairness, they still won 49-10 and 38-17—not too shabby). Red-shirt freshman Taylor Martinez has been leading an explosive Nebraska offense that moves when he moves; Martinez is averaging 13.5 yards per carry. The defense was on fire against Idaho last week, racking up seven sacks and taking two of its five interceptions to the house.

But, if anyone can scorch that defense, it’s Jake Locker. Locker, a potential No. 1 overall NFL pick, has led Washington to a 1-1 start (1-1 against the spread). The Huskies are trying to rejuvenate their program, and a win over the Cornhuskers would go a long way to helping that. Defensively, Washington has played well over its past four games, but Martinez presents a whole new problem.

Nebraska is for real. Sure, Martinez is young, but you don’t need to be an expert at reading defenses to flee the pocket and rip off a 50-yard run. Locker will keep Washington around for a while, but there are just too many playmakers on the Cornhuskers’ side. Bet on Nebraska to cover.
