series 31-29 as the home team has won 21 of the past 29 games, but the Golden
Bears won in Tempe on Jan. 19 88-58 in a game that was
somewhat closer than the final score would indicate. ASU
ranks first in the league in three-point percentage, hitting 122-of-311 (.392),

Washington State-Oregon

If Washington State wins at Oregon Saturday, the current Cougar senior
class (Randy Green) will be the first at WSU to
defeat all nine Pac-10 opponents since 1989. Oregon
is 11-14 overall, 5-8 in the Pacific-10. Oregon
leads the Pac-10 in 3-point field goals made (6.60 per game). In the series the
Ducks have won last nine meetings and 17 of the last 18. Oregon
has won 10 straight over WSU in Eugene. 

Connecticut-Seton Hall

The Huskies were 11-0 before losing Jan. 3 at Marquette
in their Big East opener. They won 11 straight again before the Villanova loss.
The Huskies have little time to dwell on the loss. The Villanova game was the
second in a three-game Big East road trip. It began at Seton Hall and ends
Saturday at No. 11 West Virginia, now tied with Villanova atop the 16-team conference.The league historically has tried to avoid
scheduling teams for three straight road games but with more teams this season,
it’s more frequent.

Toledo-Detroit

The Rockets will be looking to match their season-best win
streak of four games with a win over the Titans. UT will have a formidable
challenge on its hands to do that as Detroit
has posted a 10-1 win-loss mark on its homecourt this season. Toledo
is coming off a perfect three-game homestand during
which it posted wins over Central Michigan (78-62), Kent
State (60-44) and Bowling Green (72-64). During this
stretch, the Rockets registered a 53.1 FG% and
limited their opponents to a 41.2 shooting mark.

New Mexico State-Pacific

Press Notes

Pacific is 18-6 overall, 8-2 in the Big West Conference. New
Mexico State,
former member of the Big West Conference, is 10-12 overall, 6-5 in the Western
Athletic Conference. The Aggies hold a 27-8 edge in
the all-time series, although the Tigers have a 9-6 series edge in Stockton.

Indiana State-Western Michigan

Indiana Statesmen

ISU is coming off a thrilling
61-60 over the Northern Iowa Panthers Tuesday at Hulman Center.
Western Michigan recorded a 67-64 victory over
conference rival Eastern Michigan on Wednesday. The
Broncos currently carry a record of 11-13 and are tied for first place with an
8-6 record in the weak Mid-American Conference West Division.

The Sycamores also carry an 11-13 record and are eighth
place with a 4-12 record in the Missouri Valley Conference. ISU
holds an 11-4 advantage in the all-time series with the Broncos

Cal Santa Barbara-San
Jose State

UC Santa Barbara Saturday’s game
at San Jose State
with an overall record of 11-11 and a Big West record of 4-6. On Thursday
night, the Gauchos won their fourth straight game with a 64-37 drubbing of
visiting Cal Poly. Last weekend, UCSB had its most
successful road trip of the season with a 60-59 win at UC
Irvine on Feb. 9 and an 81-78 victory at Long Beach
State on Feb. 11. Santa
Barbara is 7-5 in non-conference games this season.
Finally, the 11 wins equals UCSB’s
2004-05 total. UCSB is 3-8 on the road this season,
but has won three out of four and two straight since starting the year with
seven straight road losses. UCSB’s win at UC Davis on Jan. 15 ended a nine-game road losing streak
that dated back to the final two road games of the 2004-05 season. After a loss
at Cal Poly on Jan. 21, the Gauchos won consecutive road games at UC Irvine and Long Beach
State and thus they will take a
two-game road winning streak into their game at San
Jose State. It
marks the first time since the 2003-04 season that UCSB has won consecutive road games. UCSB
was 2-13 in true road games last season and 1-1 in neutral site games.

George Mason-Wichita
State

After that 1-2 start, the Patriots are 19-3 and lead the
Colonial Athletic Association in scoring defense (57.6 points), shooting
defense (37.7 percent) and are third in three-point defense (30.4 percent).
George Mason, like WSU, is balanced on offense. Five
Patriots average 10 or more points.

Bucknell-Northern Iowa

After sailing through the first 10 weeks of the season at
19-3, UNI has hit a rough patch.
Going into Saturday’s 11 a.m. Bracket
Buster home contest against 24^th-rated Bucknell,
the Panthers (21-6, 11-5 MVC) have lost three of
their last five, including two straight.
Injuries have taken a toll. Crawford is still trying to work his way back from
a broken bone in his right foot. Sparkplug John Little, questionable for
Saturday, has not practiced the past two days because of a badly sprained
ankle, and reserve Tyler Griffin has been sidelined all week due to a similar
injury.
