Raiders-Eagles

San Francisco Chronicle

Coach Art Shell wants every healthy player to play in
Sunday’s exhibition opener against the Eagles. That healthy part could rule out
a lot of bodies. At least 15 players missed practice this week with a variety
of injuries. Shell could wait until Sunday to settle on a quarterback rotation.
The only certainty is Brooks will start

Oakland’s
defense, with defensive coordinator Rob Ryan in his third year, had its way
with the offense for the better part of a week. Oakland’s
offense is going retro, with Shell, offensive coordinator Tom Walsh and wide
receivers coach Fred Biletnikoff reviving the old
Raiders attack of power running and throwing downfield.

Sunday will mark a return to the sideline for head coach
Art Shell, who served as Raiders coach from 1989 to 1994 and led the franchise
to three postseason appearances, as well as the Raider debut for quarterback
Aaron Brooks, formerly the Saints’ starter for the better part of six seasons. Philadelphia,
meanwhile, will be seeking to recover from an ‘05
campaign that saw the former NFC East power finish 6-10, including eight losses
in its final 10 games. The Raiders and Eagles have split their all-time
preseason series, 2-2, with the last such matchup coming prior to the 1980
season. Oakland defeated the Dallas
Cowboys in the 1979 game, and (as the L.A. Raiders) downed Green
Bay
in the 1993 contest. Philadelphia
has split its Hall of Fame Game results, defeating Miami
in the 1978 tilt and falling to the Jets in the 1992 edition of the game.

Philadelphia Inquirer

Quarterbacks Donovan McNabb, Jeff Garcia, Koy Detmer and Timmy Chang, will
all play a quarter. The first, second, third and fourth units will also play a
quarter. Reid also announced that the
following injured players won’t be making the trip: wide receivers Jeremy
Bloom, Todd Pinkston and Derrick Fenner, fullback
Jason Davis, linebacker Chris Gocong, safety Quintin Mikell, cornerback Donald
Strickland and running backs Ryan Moats and Correll Buckhalter.
