2009 PGA Championship Odds: Tiger Woods is 3/2

While MLB free picks is the most immediate concern of sports bettors, betting on golf odds is second only to UFC betting as the fastest growing form of sports wagering.

As long as Tiger Woods is entered, the only question about the Vegas betting odds of a golf tournament is how much would is the favorite by. The betting line for the 2009 USPGA Championship sees Woods at 3/2.

After winning the Bridgestone Invitational by five shots, Woods has now won 22 of his last 40 starts going back to the 2006 British Open. “That’s the equivalent of a baseball player hitting .500—not .400 mind you—but .500 for an entire season,” say KJR in Seattle‘s morning host Mitch Levy.

Overall, it’s the 70th Tour event victory by Woods. Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington are a distant second—and distant is an understatement—at 20/1 each. Lee Westwood is 28/1 followed by a cluster at 33/1: Hunter Mahan, Retief Goosen, Steve Stricker, and Sergio Garcia.

“Woods is one of the mentally toughest athletes in history and all the stars are aligned for a victory here,” says Brian Kayma master of scores and odds website Lines-Maker.com. He adds, “Woods is in a nice groove winning the Buick Open and at Firestone Country Club in successive weeks. Plus after the disaster at Turnberry, he will be on a personal mission,” concludes Kayma.

Woods miraculously missed the cut at the British Open at Turnberry in the last golf major.
