The Tennessee Titans take on the Pittsburgh Steelers to open the NFL betting season. The latest NFL point spread has Pittsburgh -6, but we are concerned here with the total which is 35.

Tennessee is actually going to spread out their offense tonight. They used two tight ends and two wide receivers during the preseason. Tonight they will use tight ends Bo Scaife and Alge Crumpler in the slot at times to open up the field.

Both teams will blitz heavily tonight, but that means it will be difficult for sustained drives, the heart of each offense. There will be more big plays that the sportsbooks expect.

Of course the biggest loss on either side of the ball for either team is the Titans losing their best defensive player Albert Haynesworth. Also Jevon Kearse and Kyle Vanden Bosch are not 100 percent.

Pittsburgh is without a key defensive player Lawrence Timmons.

The Steelers now have a great running game with Willie Parker battling for a new contract and last year’s first rounder Rashard Mendenhall healthy. This will give Ben Roethlisberger more time to exploit Tennessee‘s soft, two-deep zone.

Tennessee already had one of the great running games with LenDale White and Chris Johnson, but added WRs top pick Kenny Britt and free agent Nate Washington. Granted Washington is a game time decision but Britt is a big time player.
