UFC 104 Betting – Velasquez vs Rothwell Pick

The World Series odds of big, powerful New York and Philadelphia meeting are looking mighty good right now. That’s fitting, as the odds of a good battle between big, tough heavyweights at UFC 104 are good too. In the second biggest fight of the night, heavyweight contender Cain Velasquez hopes to continue his rise up the ranks against Ben Rothwell. Let’s break down the fight and make a pick.

THE FAVORITE…

Cain Velasquez
Record: 6-0
Notable wins: Cheick Kongo
Online betting odds for UFC 104: -300

It seems no one can agree on Cain Velasquez’s future. Some feel he’s inexperienced and overhyped, the symbol of the UFC’s desperate attempt to build up the heavyweight division. Others see Velasquez as the real deal, a superb athlete and an eventual serious challenger to Brock Lesnar. I tend to view Velasquez as the latter. He’s a fantastic wrestler thanks to his background at Arizona State. As he showed against Cheick Kongo at UFC 99, Velasquez is a master of using body leverage to ragdoll men much bigger than him. His striking isn’t particularly powerful but it’s decent, as he has kickboxing experience. He’s a next-generation mixed martial artist, bringing the type of intensity to his fights usually seen in NFL betting.

THE UNDEROG

Ben Rothwell
Record: 30-6
Notable wins: Krzysztof Soszynski, Roy Nelson
Online betting odds for UFC 104: +240

Big Ben Rothwell may be making his UFC debut, but he’s certainly not an inexperienced fighter. A grizzled vet desipte being just a year older than Velasquez, Rothwell has tangled with top heavyweights like Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia—both former UFC champs. Rothwell is a well-rounded fighter. He has decent wrestling ability, especially because of his 6’5″, 265-pound-plus frame; he’s not a phenomenal boxer but he can drop guys with his big meat hooks; he also has solid submission ability on the ground, as he’s tapped out 11 opponents.

Pick: Velasquez -300. Rothwell is by no means an easy opponent because of his versatility and size. However, Cain Velasquez, as “overhyped” as he may be, is not the type of fighter to underestimate a Rothwell. He’s a tireless worker who prepares meticulously for opponents and is never satisfied with his performance. He’ll be ready for Rothwell and use his superior speed and athleticism to win—just like the Phillies will do against the Yankees in World Series betting.

Week 7 NFL Spreads: Packers-Browns

The NFL gaming match-ups are set. Which of the top football handicappers will have the biggest play?

In the days before the Internet, any and all handicappers worth their weight in winnings were on scorephones. There was a burden of proof to appear before the World Wide Web allowed anyone with a computer to present herself as a betting expert.

Simply put, every tout, tip sheet, and sports handicapper applied, but only the best of the best made the cut—less than one-percent of all sports services.

OffshoreInsiders.com pulled out all the stops to assure the top two scorephone handicappers ever, based on money won, would be part of The Show for sports handicapping.  Joe Duffy, America‘s only living Grandmaster Handicapper and Matt Rivers are true handicapping legends and their personal bets are exclusively on OffshoreInsiders.com

Brooke Hundley, Steve Phillips, Marni Phillips Love Triangle Can’t Overshadow Top Sports Picks

Brooke Hundley, a 22-year-old nut job straight out of the balloon boy family profile at ESPN has brought down former Mets GM Steve Phillips—perhaps literally and figuratively. Phillips, who for the time being is an ESPN analyst, has been harassed by Hundley as has his soon-to-be ex-wife Marni Phillips and their teenage son via Facebook.

Worse is Brooke Hundley pictures indicate that she is no Carrie Prejean.

We are guessing that Phillips will not be the first guest on the Dennis and Callahan Show on WEEI. The sports talk pioneer has joined forces with ESPN.  Hundley appears intent on destroying Phillips in the same way the top sports handicappers have done to the sportsbooks.

Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: Tulsa takes on Texas-El Paso, the Wild try to cool off the Avalanche, and the Dodgers and Phillies play Game 5 of the NLCS.

Colliding on the gridiron . . .

There’s one college football game on the schedule for Wednesday, with Tulsa at UTEP. The Golden Hurricane (4-2 SU, 3-1-1 ATS) will be looking to bounce back from a 28-21 loss to Boise State last time out; G.J. Kinne had two TD passes for Tulsa in that contest. The Miners (2-4 SU, 2-4 ATS) fell 35-20 to Memphis in their last game. Trevor Vittatoe threw for 319 yards and two scores in that defeat. Oddsmakers have Tulsa pegged as the 7.5-point favorite for Wednesday’s game.

Meeting up on the diamond . . .

It’s Game 5 of the NLCS between the Dodgers and Phillies in Philadelphia on Wednesday night, with Los Angeles sending Vicente Padilla to the mound against Philly’s Cole Hamels. Righthander Padilla started Game 2 of the NLCS, settling for a no-decision after giving up one earned run on four hits over 7 1-3 innings of work. Lefthander Hamels won Game 1 of the series, surrendering four earned runs on eight hits over 5 1-3 innings. Hamels fanned four in that contest.

Anyone who gives a flip about long-term winning is already a permanent client. For those who have not yet joined the endless winning, here is what we’ve done for you lately. We are 11-4 in the postseason with no help from Lady Luck as we are 11-2 in games that don’t go extra innings. We are 10-5 in college football.

Taking a trip around the rink . . .

Finally, the National Hockey League offers up six games on Wednesday, including Colorado at Minnesota. The red-hot Avalanche have started the season 6-1-1, and they got past the Red Wings 4-3 on the road in a shootout in their last contest. Craig Anderson stopped 28 of 31 Detroit shots in that game. The Wild, on the other hand, are off to a miserable 1-6-0 start this year, and they were beaten 2-1 by the Canucks last time out. Mikko Koivu had the Wild’s lone score.

Rounding out Wednesdays action on the ice: Carolina at the Islanders, Buffalo at Florida, Vancouver at Chicago, Dallas at Anaheim, and Nashville at Boston. The 2-4-1 Predators lost 3-2 in shootout to the Capitals in their last game, and they’ve lost forward Jason Arnott for a couple weeks with an arm injury. The 3-4-0 Bruins fell 4-1 to the Coyotes last time out, with Tim Thomas giving up four goals on 36 shots. Bruins forward Milan Lucic had finger surgery and will be out for a month.
