Yes it is asking a lot for the ridiculously slumping Marlins to keep pace with one of, if not the best team in the game today in the Phillies. Uncle Charlie’s squad will win about 97 games this season and make a deep run in the playoffs possibly winning the World Series.
Meanwhile on the opposite extreme the season has turned into a diaster for the Marlins after jumping out of the gate in fine form. Hanley Ramirez has done next to nothing and has been injured but there is a chance the three-time All-Star could be back and playing today. Whether he is or not isn’t the end all as either way Philadelphia is the clear-cut stronger squad. But the fish are a pain in the Phillies side a lot of the time and with Mike Stanton blowing up along with a few other guys that are capable in Gaby Sanchez, Luke Morrison, Chris Coghlan and Omar Infante.
A lot will depend on which Volstad we see. If he doesn’t wet the bed then we truly have a legitimate shot. If he does implode then oh well. Volstad has the potential to allow six runs in the first inning, I admit that, but Florida is a lot better than what they have been showing and to get in the range of $2 against a guy in Hamels who I really believe is overdue to get hit a little makes me alright with taking a stab on the still talented visitors from the south.
