MLB Betting – Beckett Continues Dominance Over Burnett, Yankees

Those playing Saturday’s UFC 101 odds can warm up with a heavyweight bout on the baseball diamond on Friday, as the Yankees host the Red Sox in the second of a four-game American League East showdown. This will be the third meeting of the year between these two pitchers, who happen to be former teammates.

Red Sox vs Yankees odds – Friday, August 7, 7:05 PM ET

Josh Beckett (13-4, 3.27) threw seven scoreless innings of six-hit ball in a 4-0 win at Baltimore, and he’s now 6-4 in 11 road starts with a 3.93 ERA. He’s also won two of his three starts against the Yankees in 2009, racking up a 5.82 ERA. The high ERA against the Yanks is nothing to the 29-year-old, as he has a 5.42 ERA in 15 starts, but that goes with a 9-4 record. Your betting software should be okay with that.

A.J. Burnett (10-5, 3.89) gave up more than three runs for the first time in two months as he was lit up for seven in 4.2 innings of a 14-4 loss in Chicago. After two straight starts on the road, he returns to Yankee Stadium, where he is 4-1 in 10 starts with a 3.68 ERA. The 32-year-old has been banged around by the Red Sox this year, going 0-1 in two starts with a 12.91 ERA, and that was his first loss to Boston in his career, dropping his career record to 5-1 in 10 starts with a 3.80 ERA.

Online betting lines for this game could go either way in the third meeting of the year between Beckett and Burnett, who were teammates on Florida‘s 2003 World Series team. However, Beckett was the MVP of that series, while Burnett missed virtually the entire season after Tommy John surgery. Both got hammered in a 16-11 Boston win in their first clash, while in the second, Burnett never made it out of the third inning as Beckett tossed a one-hitter through six. Also, Beckett always seems to get up for the Yankees, even when he was in Florida, and while Burnett will pitch better, he still won’t be able to beat Beckett. Make the Red Sox one of your Friday baseball picks.
