Matt Rivers says that your comp winner for Sunday is on the Cincinnati Reds +162 against St. Louis.
Why not back the Reds here? Sure Chris Carpenter is better than Homer Bailey but Dusty Baker’s team is playing great ball and just smacked around Adam Wainwright a bit yesterday thanks in part to some shoddy defense. Cincinnati is now a full eight games ahead of St. Louis and are ready to drop the hammer today and end this race. It’s not going to be easy as Carpenter is a horse and a bona fide ace but the Redbirds have been awful ever since that last series at the Great American Ballpark and are flat out the inferior team of these two.
Albert Pujols still scares the bejeesus out of me but truly the Cards don’t have much more. Matt Holliday is good but really not great anymore and the likes of John Jay and Colby Rasmus and Yadier Molina are mediocre at the very best.
Joey Votto may be the MVP and the Reds are a team that is exuding with confidence and playing at a very high level. Brandon Phillips, Scott Rolen, Jay Bruce and a few others compliment Votto very well and Aroldis Chapman appears to be all that he was cracked up to be. We may not win this game but at this price I’m willing to take my chances backing a team that’s on its way up, even if our starter isn’t as good.
This is the epitome of a play where there is nothing to lose. We’re getting a ton back with a top six or seven team in all of baseball. I’m fine with that.
For more information: Northwestern disappointed me in the end as they allowed a late touchdown but I’m still feeling great about the 2-1 day and ready to explode and bury that Crookie. A 300,000* winner on Oregon State yesterday and another 300,000* today highlights what will be a 2-0 sweep of the board as I get a new week started in style. 300,000* SMU-Texas Tech along with a 200,000* Atlanta-Florida on the diamond.
