The Wizards (40-40) enter tonight’s game against the Bucks
at Verizon Center
in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Wins tonight and at Detroit
tomorrow night in the regular season finale would clinch the fifth seed and set
up a first-round series with LeBron James, Larry Hughes and the Cleveland
Cavaliers.

Clippers-Grizzlies

The Clippers visit the Grizzlies tonight, and the loser
appears to have more to gain than the winner. A better postseason draw awaits
the team that finishes lower in the standings. Memphis
(47-33) is a game ahead of Los Angeles
for fifth place in the Western Conference and each team has two games
remaining. The Grizzlies will clinch the No. 5 seed with a victory. But should
they want it? The No. 5 seed will open the postseason at Dallas,
which has the second-best record in the West but falls to fourth because it is
in the same division as San Antonio.
The three division winners get the top three seeds. Meanwhile, because of more
wins, the No. 6 team would have home-court advantage against No. 3 Denver and
wouldn’t have to face the Spurs or Mavs until the
conference finals.

Sonics-Kings

The Sonics were 3-7 in their first 10 games and 9-19 after
28 games with Hill. The team’s spin-makers pointed to a couple of trades that
reshaped the roster and said the new-look Sonics needed time to jell.It wasn’t until a 98-96 defeat to Detroit on March 3
that the Sonics turned the corner. They’re 12-9 since that game and 13-8 with
newcomers Chris Wilcox and Earl Watson in the lineup. This is the final road
game for the Sonics, who are 13-27 on the road and finish the season at KeyArena on Wednesday against Denver.The
Sonics’ 102.3 scoring average is second in the NBA. Since acquiring Artest, the Kings have allowed 100 points to just eight
opponents in 39 games. Sacramento is 14-3 at home with Artest
in the starting lineup.

Yes you should be shocked seeing us laying such
chalk. We didn’t become the Industry Standard that way, but this is
worth the 3-1 odds. KC has lost seven straight, all by two or more runs. In fact, they are 2-9 on the year and all
losses were by two or more runs.

The Sox got their World Series hangover out of the way and
have won 6-of-7. The Royals’ Joe Mays has been throwing beach balls to the
plate. His ERA is 12.86 and his WHIP 2.429. Contreras has a 1.93 ERA and a
1.071 WHIP. The Sox are 16-3 at home in the series.

The playoff chase is over, but Orlando’s
eight-game winning streak is still alive, which should keep the game
interesting. In their last home game of the season, the Magic will be holding
their Fan Appreciation Night. Chicago
qualified for the playoffs with a victory Sunday against the Heat in Miami,
but their position will be determined by their final two games. Chicago
hopes to guard against a letdown. The Bulls have won eight of their past 10
games, making a nice run despite some key injuries. Chicago
leads the season with Orlando 2-1.

Cavaliers-Celtics

Cavs coach Mike Brown is committed to resting his front-line
players, with the exception of Hughes, this week. With the luxury of having
their playoff situation settled, Brown said he will continue to pull his
starters in the fourth quarter and is considering sitting James for an entire
game against the Boston Celtics tonight or the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.

Pistons-Bucks

The Pistons come to the Bradley Center tonight seemingly
on cruise control with the NBA’s best record at (64-16), a first-round date
with a playoff opponent still to be determined and almost a lock on home-court
advantage all the way through to the final round if they should make it that
far. The Bucks don’t have that luxury, even though they qualified for the
playoffs Saturday night despite an embarrassing loss to the Atlanta Hawks at
the Bradley Center.
That loss combined with Philadelphia’s
loss to Orlando allowed Milwaukee
to back into a playoff berth. But that loss put a major crimp in the Bucks’
hopes of finishing fifth in the Eastern Conference, which would allow them to
face fellow Central Division member Cleveland in the best-of-seven first round.
The only option that remains for Milwaukee
is to win its final two games of the season against the Pistons and at Washington
Tuesday night and see how everything else works out in the down-to-the-wire
race with Indiana and Wizards for the fifth spot.
